News broke recently that Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, aka Troy from Community has been given a part in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the upcoming webslinger solo movie that is being overlooked by both Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. Glover’s addition to the cast is extremely interesting, due to the fact that he was originally in talks to play the wallcrawler during the cinematic reboot of the franchise, before Andrew Garfield took on the role. Glover did voice Miles Morales in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon series, so while he wasn’t Spidey on the big screen, he did get to play him on the little one.
It has not been stated yet who Donald Glover will be playing in the upcoming film, but could it be Miles Morales? Seems unlikely, as the character is in the early teenage stages in the comics and Glover is a little bit older than that. In any case, it may not be anything more than a small role, but still, it’s awesome to hear that Sony and Marvel is rewarding the actor by being involved in the Spider-Man Cinematic Universe after all this time.
