The Story Behind Our Name: A lot of mumbling and laughter. “Super Snake…” it sounds as stupid as it does awesome. “Watch out bruh, that’s a super snake.” or “I just wish I was eating a super snake right now.” Sometimes pronounced “Soup or Steak.”

Can you tell us the story of how Super Snake came together, and why you wanted to play with them and form a band with them?
A lot of random mishaps. A lot of talk between mutual friends about making a Kiss-meets-Motorhead thing. We really had no serious agenda. I was living in LA; founding/former member, Gregg Kautz (I Am Heresy, no longer with us), asked me to jam with them. I moved back to NJ, jammed, and everything just felt organic.
Think about the first time you were on stage with Super Snake — how do you think you’ve evolved since that date, and what’s been the biggest mistake you’ve learned from?
We lost our original guitar players, gained some new ones. That obviously changed the landscape of our entire frontier. We dropped the “Kiss-meets-Motorhead” thing and adopted a more lopsided psychedelic approach to heavy pop-rock ‘n’ roll.
What’s been your proudest accomplishment as a band?
Surviving Millersville, VA where we recorded our forthcoming LP Leap of Love. We recorded with Kevin Antreassian (Dillinger Escape Plan) in a remote cabin in the middle of no where, up in the mountains. There were a lot of guns, explosives, poltergeist dogs, and vices probably best left to the reader’s imagination. We were driving golf carts around this 150-acre property; it would get dark, we would get lost deep in the woods. We were chased out of a local bar by the warm, friendly regulars. We were so loud we were giving the neighboring estate’s horses diarrhea — I am being completely literal. Offering local female law authorities adult beverages and gourmet chicken sandwiches. Fires so big it looked like they’d rip a hole in the sky. It was all pretty freaky stuff.
What do you love about being in Super Snake?
Our confidence in being weird. I love that we all love being dangerously close to letting ourselves get carried away. Seriously not taking anything serious.
There are so many bands performing in the Asbury scene right now – what separates you from everyone else?
Well, I’m no expert in the entire Asbury scene, but it’s hard to imagine anybody sounding close to what we are doing. We’re all too rare and unique as people, our formation was forged under a blue moon through coincidence. We strive to make left hand turns and get lost on purpose. We worship Barbara Steele and a goat god named Pharaoh.
If someone had never heard Super Snake before what song would you recommend they check out in order to fully understand what the band is truly about? And why?
There’s no songs available online from our forthcoming full-length yet and thats essentially all we are playing live right now. And that’s what we’re truly about. As far as old stuff, maybe “Nevada”, “Yes, I’m a Doctor” (see us in a full-drag creep-fest music video), or “Scarlett Valley.” Those tracks are like a PG-13 preview of what you’re getting now.
What are your plans for the rest of 2015?
Finishing the “Leap of Love” LP with Kevin. Finding someone to help us put it out there. Playing shows as much as humanly possible. Normal ass band shit.
