This summer, the city of Brooklyn will be graced with open mindedness, good vibes, and the power of a musical movement. Artists such as Lenny Kravitz, Lauryn Hill, and Grace Jones are among many set to perform at the annual Afropunk Festival on August 22nd and 23rd at Commodore Barry Park.
The festival will also include the first annual Afropunk Fancy Dress Ball to raise money for the Afropunk Global Initiative taking place the day before the festival begins. The initiative aims to enlighten the way people of color are represented within all aspects of society and to encourage the diversification within the media.
While Afropunk festival used to be free, this year purchasing a ticket is required for entry. However, the festival is offering an “earned ticket program” which will give people an opportunity to volunteer with activities and projects such as landscaping, packing supplies, or advocacy in exchange for the ticket.
The ticket program will also raise awareness for organizations in need and will give access to many valuable resources while creating a positive impact within surrounding communities.
Tickets are now on sale ranging from $45 to $250 and are available for single day or weekend general admission as well as VIP.
